About

Hey guys, this is Marina & Doris, two black girls very passionate about mental health in the black community 🙂

Have you ever felt lost within your own emotions? Or found yourself feeling as though you don’t fit in the world sometimes? Like the world and those in it just do not understand you? Or even worse like your own mind does not get you? Maybe sometimes you feel that everything seems against you no matter what you do. Or you feel anxious all the time. If you said yes to any of this, I want you to know that you are not alone, and all those feelings are VALID.

This is not just any other blog, but a platform to help raise awareness on several aspects of mental health in a safe and informal manner. We will all be learning and sharing experiences but most importantly advising each other. As Africans, we tend to not acknowledge those feelings because our culture taught us to be “strong”. Who defines what strong is? Validating emotions and learning how to better take care of yourself mentally and physically is part of being strong. There is a persistent stigma associated with mental health that we are trying to change, especially in today’s era, where it seems to control how we express our emotions. We are not professionals over here, so this is a learning curve for each and every one of us. For now, we are just girls interested and passionate about taking care of each other.
